Terms and conditions of sale

Who we are
These terms apply to every order you place on this website. The supplier is:
- Trading as: Vleis & Co.
We are not currently a member of an industry self-regulatory body unless this page or our footer says otherwise. Our complaints process is on the complaints page.
Accepting these terms
By ticking the box at checkout you agree to these terms and to our privacy notice. You must be 18 or older and able to enter into a contract. The terms that applied when you ordered are the ones that apply to that order, and we keep a record of the version you accepted. You can read these terms at any time on this page, and you can print or save them. We can also email you a copy on request.
Before you pay, the checkout shows you a summary of your order so that you can check it, correct mistakes and go back. You may cancel the order at that stage by simply not paying. Your order is not final until you have paid and we have accepted it.
Products and prices
We describe each product on its page, including the state it is sold in (fresh, vacuum packed, frozen, previously frozen or dried), how to store it, its ingredients and allergens, and where it comes from. Photos are for illustration. Cuts are prepared by hand, so the size and shape of a piece can differ slightly from the picture.
All prices are in South African rand and include VAT where VAT applies. The delivery fee, if any, is added at checkout and shown before you pay. The total you see at the end is the full price including transport, taxes and other fees. We give you a tax invoice for every order.
If a price or a stock level on the website is clearly wrong, for example a price missing a digit, we may correct it. We will tell you before we dispatch and you can accept the corrected price or cancel for a full refund. We hold reasonable stock for the quantities we advertise, but if we cannot fill part of an order we will tell you and refund that part.
Meat sold by weight
Some products are sold by weight. For those, the weight at checkout is an estimate and the price you pay up front is based on it. We weigh the cut when we prepare it and your final price is based on the actual weight at the price per kilogram shown. If the final price is lower we refund the difference. If it is higher we will only ask you for the extra amount if you agree.
We aim to be within 10 percent of the estimated weight. If the actual weight is further from the estimate than that, we will contact you before we dispatch so you can decide what to do. Your invoice shows the actual weight and the final amount.
Placing and accepting an order
When you place an order we email you a confirmation with a reference. That email shows we received the order. A contract is made when your payment is confirmed and we accept the order. We may decline an order, for example if we cannot deliver to your area or the products are unavailable, and if we do we refund anything you paid.
You can cancel an order for a full refund before we start preparing it. Once cutting has begun we may not be able to cancel, because the meat has been prepared for you.
Payment
You pay through PayFast, a South African payment provider, on its own secure page. PayFast supports the payment methods it shows you at the time. We do not see or store your card or bank details. We treat an order as paid only when PayFast confirms the payment to our server, not when you return to this website.
Special orders and quotes
For special orders such as a whole animal, a particular cut or a large function order, you send us a request and we reply with a quote. A quote is valid for 7 days. It may ask for a deposit. When you accept a quote we start the work.
Special orders are made to your specification. They are customised goods, so you cannot cancel them for a refund once we have begun preparing them, and a deposit paid for work already started is not refundable. This does not limit your rights if the goods are defective or not what we agreed to supply.
Delivery and collection
We deliver to the areas and in the time slots offered at checkout, and you can choose to collect where that option is shown. The details, including cut-off times, fees and cold chain, are in our delivery and refunds policy, which forms part of these terms. Risk in the goods passes to you when they are delivered to the address you gave, or handed to you or someone you nominated, or when you collect them.
Cold chain and your part in it
We pack and dispatch chilled products at 5 degrees Celsius or below and frozen products at -18 degrees Celsius or below, and we record the temperature when we hand over. Once the order is delivered, keeping it cold is your responsibility. Please put it in a refrigerator or freezer promptly. We are not responsible for deterioration that happens because the order was left unattended or stored badly after delivery, except where you gave us permission to leave it and it was already warm when it arrived.
Allergens and certifications
Our product pages list allergens we know about. Products made in a kitchen that handles several ingredients may carry a "may contain" warning. If you have an allergy, check the product page and contact us before you order.
We only describe a product as halaal or kosher if it is certified and the certificate is on file for that product. If a product page does not say so, it is not certified.
Problems with your order
Please check your order when it arrives. If something is wrong, for example it arrived warm, it is damaged, it is not what you ordered or the quality is not right, tell us through the order page within 24 hours of delivery and attach a photo. That window helps us investigate while the evidence is fresh. It does not take away your rights under the Consumer Protection Act, including the right to goods of good quality and the right to a repair, replacement or refund if goods are defective. The steps and refund times are in the delivery and refunds policy.
No cooling-off for perishable goods
The 7 day cooling-off right for online purchases does not apply to perishable and consumable goods, so we cannot take back correctly supplied meat because you changed your mind. This does not affect your rights if goods are faulty or not as described.
Our responsibility
We are responsible for the goods we supply and for services we provide, as the Consumer Protection Act requires. Nothing in these terms excludes or limits a right you have under that Act or any other law. Subject to that, we are not liable for indirect or consequential loss, such as a function you planned around an order, beyond the value of the order, unless the loss was caused by our gross negligence or intentional wrongdoing.
Your personal information
We handle your personal information as described in our privacy notice, in line with the Protection of Personal Information Act.
Governing law and disputes
These terms are governed by the laws of South Africa. If we cannot settle a dispute between us, you may approach the National Consumer Commission, the consumer court in your province or the courts of South Africa. If we are a member of the Consumer Goods and Services Ombud (cgso.org.za), this page or our footer will say so, and you may take your complaint there. For privacy matters you may approach the Information Regulator at [email protected].
Changes and contact
We may change these terms. A change does not affect an order you have already placed. The date and version at the top show when they last changed. For any question about these terms, contact us.
